Griffin Co, Curator
Why did you want to work in Museums?
As a lover of art, curating is something I feel passionate about. It is very rewarding to talk to and engage with people about art. I enjoy working in the creative and aesthetic environment. I feel very privileged to share my knowledge, expertise and passion about art with the public because many people's lives are richer because of art.
What's your favourite part of the job?
My favourite part of the job is working with art and artists, writing about art and visiting art fairs and artists' studios to learn about their work and working with curators at other museums and galleries to organise exhibitions.
What's your favourite object?
That's like asking 'what's your favourite Joni Mitchell song?' Every painting at the gallery is different and every painting makes you feel a different way. But there is one portrait I really like: Miss Janet Shairp by Allan Ramsay. To me, this painting is unique in terms of style, pose and modelling. It's not static like a photograph. A photograph records what has happened whereas a portrait like this one, was made for intimacy, as if the sitter in the painting is a living creature of flesh and blood.
