Alison Fraser, Lead Curator, Collections Access

Alison FraserWhy did you want to work in Museums?
Having initially studied Art History and Drawing and Painting, I followed the practical route to become a conservator. However, working in museums made me realise how interested I am in the history and interpretation of objects and I decided to retrain as a curator. I am fascinated by the historic interior and enjoy looking after the period rooms in Provost Skene's House.

What's your favourite part of the job?
Broadening access to museums and offering different ways for visitors to learn about the collections and the work we do.

What's your favourite object?
I have to go for an Arts and Crafts necklace of silver, amethyst and blister pearl, designed by Ann Macbeth and dated to 1905, as it was my first major acquisition for the Art Gallery.
