Wild Weekends on Offer at Aberdeen Art Gallery

A series of fun, free activities for all the family to enjoy start this weekend [Saturday 02 July] to coincide with the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition on display at Aberdeen Art Gallery, Schoolhill.

The exhibition opened earlier this month [Saturday 11 June] and runs until Saturday 20 August 2011 and is already proving to be extremely popular with visitors. Figures for Saturday 26 June reveal 1,000 visitors viewed the exhibition.

Deirdre Grant, Head of Public Programmes, Museums & Galleries, Aberdeen City Council, said: "We've had a terrific response to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition and we look forward to welcoming visitors of all ages to the Gallery this weekend for the launch of our Go Wild series.

"We will be joined by the Four Crows who are making their first visit to the city. They will be out and about in the Gallery and surrounding area. Throughout the summer Go Wild Weekends will be exploring nature and the environment with an opportunity to see some live birds and insects at close quarters and lots of hand on activities."

Saturday 02 July
The Four Crows will help Aberdeen Art Gallery launch its summer programme. Look out for them talking, circling, stopping and watching - both indoors and outdoors. Suitable for all ages.

Saturday 09 July
This will be the first time live birds will be on show at Aberdeen Art Gallery. Come and meet North East Falconry's awesome owls and learn all about these beautiful birds. Suitable for all ages. Drop in any time between 10.30am-3.30pm.

Saturday 16 July
Join Mandy Tulloch for hands-on family fun exploring nature and the environment. For more info visit www.mudpieadventures.co.uk Suitable for children aged 3-7 with accompanying adult(s) Booking is essential. Sessions will be held at 10.30am-12noon or 2pm-3.30pm.

Saturday 30 July
Join the extremely popular Mr Bug and meet his fantastic collection of exciting and interesting creatures. Suitable for children aged 5+ with accompanying adult(s). Booking is essential. Sessions will be held at 10.30am-11.05am, 11.30am-12.05pm, 12.30pm-1.05pm, 2pm-2.35pm, 3pm-3.35pm.

Saturday 06 August
Explore the oceans with representatives of University of Aberdeen's Natural History Centre. In these fun, interactive sessions you will learn all about the amazing creatures that live in the sea and seashore. Suitable for children aged 5+ with accompanying adult(s). Booking is essential. Sessions will be held at 10.30am-11.15am, 11.30am-12.15pm, 1pm-1.45pm, 2pm-2.45pm.

Sunday 10, 17, 31 July and 07 August
Join the Arts Development Team to create amazing artworks inspired by wildlife and nature. Each week there will be a different activity. Suitable for children aged 5+ with accompanying adult(s). Drop-in sessions will be held at 2.30pm-4.30pm.

During the week the studio workshop will packed full of interesting information, art activities and quirky quizzes to make a visit to the gallery even more fun. Any artwork created by those taking part can be taken home or stuck on studio wall for other visitors to see.
