Memorabilia of Royal visit to Aberdeen goes on display

27 June 2013

A display of photographs and memorabilia from Edward VII's visit to the Granite City in 1906 has gone on display at Aberdeen Maritime Museum, Shiprow.

Their Majesties King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra came to Aberdeen on 27 September 1906 to preside over the opening of the new buildings at Marischal College. The city was decorated with garlands and bunting as hundreds of people lined the streets to see the royal couple.

Jenny Brown, curator at Aberdeen Maritime Museum said: "Some of these photographs were taken by local photographer George Fraser of the well-known printing firm G & W Fraser, Belmont Works. The company went on to publish postcards under the trademark Belmont, which continue to be highly collectible."

The exhibition runs until Saturday 07 December 2013.
