Ask a Question

Aberdeen Art Gallery will be closing from March 2015 till late 2017 for an HLF-funded redevelopment. We are busy packing in preparation for the move from the Gallery and will have limited access to our files and books during the first year of the closure period. We are therefore suspending our research enquiry service for Fine and Decorative Art from 12 January 2015 till January 2019. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but look forward to receiving your enquiries when we have access to our resources in 2018.

Enquiries

We are currently unable to respond to enquiries, requests for access to the collections, loans to organisations or requests for curator-led talks until further notice.

Access to collections and reference materials is not possible as we pack all of our stored collections and create a new storage facility at Granitehill, Northfield, Aberdeen which will open to the public later this year.

In the case of ancient objects and coins, you should be aware of the Scottish Treasure Trove Legislation.

Please note that the law of Bona Vacantia (Treasure Trove) applies in the case of all ancient objects found in Scotland and the legal position is different from that in England.

In the case of material found on the sea shore or in tidal water that may have come from a ship or aircraft, you should contact the Receiver of Wreck.

Unfortunately, during the redevelopment of the Art Gallery and construction of a new museum collection store, we will not be able to accept any donations to the collections. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you do wish to offer something to Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums, please complete this object form and send it to info@aagm.co.uk:

Offer of donation

We will be in a position to contact you once our new storage facility has opened to the public in early 2016, when we will be able to consider, assess, process, document and safely store newly acquired items.

We welcome donations of objects to our collection provided they meet our current collecting policies.
