Time for Tea

An exhibition telling the story of teapots and tea drinking through a selection of pots from the superb collection held by Norwich Castle.

Collection Classics
(1 April - February 2005)
Highlights of the Applied Art collections, including Aberdeen silver, Meissen porcelain figures, Scottish glass, and a superb enamelled marmalade pot by leading enamellist Maureen Edgar.
Marmalade pot purchase supported by the National Fund for Acquisitions, the National Art Collections Fund, and the friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums.
Gates of the West
(1 April - 23 October)
A new, site-specific installation created for Aberdeen Art Gallery by acclaimed Scottish artist Kenny Hunter.
Purchased through the National Collecting Scheme for Scotland; supported by the National Fund for Acquisitions and the Scottish Arts Council.
Manipulating Metal
(1 April 2004 - 9 April 2005)
This exhibition, regularly updated to included new acquisitions, showcases the City's exceptional collection of works in metal, which includes pieces by international metalworkers such as Horoki Iwata and Robert Foster, and by leading Scottish metalworkers, including Malcolm Appleby, Adrian Hope and Michael Lloyd.
Many purchases for the collection were supported by grant aid bodies, the friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums, and the National Collecting Scheme for Scotland.
Spotlight on Douglas Gordon
(17 April - 19 June)
First showing in Scotland of 'Croque Mort, 2000', a series of large-scale images of a baby biting her toes, arranged so as to appear unsettling rather than sentimental or innocent.

A major exhibition of contemporary photography brought together by Aberdeen Art Gallery in conjunction with the Arts Council Collection, featuring works by leading photographic artists.

North, South, Central

Artworks by participants of all ages in classes run by the City Council's Arts development team, featuring paintings, film-making, glass, ceramics and photography.
Quentin Blake: Fifty Years of Illustration

The only Scottish showing of this major exhibition celebrating the career and distinctive drawing style of the popular illustrator.

Paul Sandby Watercolours

Aberdeen Art Gallery's holdings of works by the eighteenth century watercolourist and topographical artist.
Michael Rowe

The only Scottish showing of a major retrospective of the work of Michael Rowe, the leading artist and designer in metal.

Life at Sea

A unique selection of historically significant models, paintings and objects from maritime collections across the UK, brought together by the Maritime Curators Group and starting its national tour in Aberdeen.

Banking on Winning

A Feat of Clay: The History of Seaton Pottery
(21 November - 2 October 2005)
Major exhibition telling the story of Scotland's most northerly pottery at Seaton, Aberdeen, using items discovered in a recent large-scale archaeological excavation, as well as artefacts from the City's Collections and from those of Marischal Museum, the National Museums of Scotland, other Scottish museums and a number of private collections.
