War Tourist - Joyce Cairns

Large-scale paintings by internationally-regarded artist Cairns, who is based in Aberdeen, in which she explores how war has affected her own family and comments on the wider impact of war.

Consumed - A History of Applied Art and Human Appetite

Items from the City's extensive collection exploring the complex relationship between food and drink and the Applied Art objects we use to prepare, serve and consume it.
In the Beginning was the Word: Ian Fleming - The Creation Suite
(5 April - 8 July)
Fifteen etchings illustrating the Biblical verses describing The Creation, completed in 1977 by Aberdeen-based artist Ian Fleming (1906-1994).
Part of Word 06, the University of Aberdeen Writers' Festival.
Aberdeen Artists Society 72nd Annual Exhibition

Ten Drawings by Leonardo da Vinci - An Exhibition to Celebrate the 80th Birthday of Her Majesty The Queen

The only Scottish showing of this touring exhibition, demonstrating all the techniques and materials of drawing used by one of the finest artists and minds the world has ever known; the show was brought to Aberdeen through Gallery staff working closely with those responsible for the Royal Collection at Windsor.

Utagawa Kunisada
(12 July- 23 September)
The poplar series of prints shows featured in the James McBey Print Room continued with a display of the work by Utagawa Kunisada, by one of the most important woodblock printers in nineteenth century Japan.
William Dyce and the Pre Raphaelite Vision
(9 September - 11 November)
A celebration, on the 200th anniversary of his birth, of work of the outstanding Aberdeen-born artist William Dyce, bringing together the City's substantial holdings of Dyce's work and showing them alongside many important paintings borrowed from public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Scotland and the Royal Academy, London. The exhibition was supported by the City Growth Fund, Energising Aberdeen and the friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums.
Magnificent - One Hundred Years of His Majesty's Theatre
(30 September - 27 January)
An exhibition to mark the centenary of Aberdeen's best-loved theatre, tracing its rich history through photographs and memorabilia.
Crime Scene
(26 August - 16 September)
A pioneering new exhibition which saw pupils from Harlaw Academy work with the City's Arts Development Team to create a crime scene: the project focused on forensic science with the aim of relating science to real life in an effort to involve young people who have shown little interest in conventional learning.
Supported by the Welcome Trust with support of The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen University Scientific Collection and the City's Archaeology Unit.
A Scottish Celebration - Contemporary Textiles for the Centenary of the Embroiderers' Guild

A selection of Scottish Guild members' work, in celebration of both the craft and the centenary of the Guild.
BP Portrait Award
(25 November - 3 February 2007)
Our major winter exhibition, the only Scottish showing of The BP Portrait Award, has shown itself to be extremely popular: a large number of schools come to see it, and hundreds of people take part in our Visitors' Choice to select their own favourite portrait.

The Cheerful Vale - Exploring the Past of Balnagask, Tullos and Torry

Exploring 10,000 years of history and archaeology of the area surrounding the Bay of Nigg, Aberdeen, featuring a specially-created scale model of Torry Battery, and items not usually on show to the public.
Surfing
(24 June - 17 September)
An exhibition by the British Surfing Museum, focusing on the history of surfing in Britain and with a special tribute to Scottish-Hawaiian Princess Victoria Ka'iulani, an expert surfer who lived in the UK in the 1890s.

A small exhibition of watercolours by local marine artist Robert Andrew.
North Sea Lights

The story of the development and decline of lighthouses in the eight countries that share the North Sea is told in this exhibition.

Shape Shifters - The 19th Century Female Silhouette
(19 August - 21 October)
An exhibition of costumes illustrating the elaborate and constricting fashions of the nineteenth century, for which women went to great pains - literally - to achieve what was often an unnatural shape.
Presenting a Century of Fashion with Peggy Walker
(4 November - 6 January 2007)
A trained needlewoman and former wardrobe mistress at Aberdeen's Northern College, Peggy Walker donated several thousand items to Aberdeen's costume collection, a selection of which went on show in this exhibition.
Inside the Nursery
(11 November - 3 November 2007)
An exhibition exploring life for children inside the Victorian and Edwardian Nursery, looking at clothing, education and the toys they played with, and examining changing attitudes to childhood.
