Celebrate - 125 Years of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums

This virtual exhibition shows a selection of the fantastic artwork and artefacts which have been collected over the past 125 years.

When the Aberdeen Art Gallery and Industrial Museum first opened in 1885, it housed temporary exhibitions of art and industry, with items loaned for display by private individuals. It also became home to Aberdeen Artists Society's exhibitions of contemporary art which continue to the present time. Gradually, as more donations were received, significant permanent collections were developed. True to the initial concept, the collections are now diverse and comprise Archaeology, Fine and Decorative Art and Industrial, Maritime and Social History, all of which have been recognised as National Collections of Significance.
