I Love You Still, Jordan Baseman

My name is Adam Murray and I am a Museum Assistant here at Aberdeen Art Gallery. I have chosen the work I Love You Still by Jordan Baseman. I chose this work because I'm a fan of his work normally, he normally works in video and I feel like as a Gallery we are quite lucky to have one of his only few sculptures that he ever made. I like the piece because it's kind of familiar and yet alien, it provokes a lot of reaction from the public, mainly humorous or they just like it and they don't know why. It kind of says to me anything from a placard that someone would use as a protest, to some sort of prop from a science fiction film. Every time I work in Side Court, generally people are always drawn to the piece, and if they don't notice it, they have noticed it by the time they've left. As I said, I think it's one of our most important pieces and we're very lucky to have it as he doesn't make sculpture anymore, he works predominantly in video now. And I just love it from the reaction that people get from it. A few weeks ago, one of my favourite things was, a small boy came in and just stood still in his tracks and didn't say a word and when I walked over, I smiled at him and he just looked at me and said 'that's weird but I like it'. And I think that's mainly what the piece says, it engages people and it's a very important piece in the collection.
