Aberdeen Art Gallery, which also comprises the Cowdray Hall concert venue and the city's Remembrance Hall, is undergoing a once-in-a-lifetime £30m transformation.

This world class cultural complex in the heart of the city will be a must-visit destination for residents and tourists. It will attract upwards of 250,000 visits a year, making it one of the North East's most popular unpaid visitor attractions, with the potential to generate an additional £1.1m spend in the wider local economy. The project will:

  • increase the number of galleries for the display of Aberdeen's exceptional Recognised Collection of National Significance from 11 to 21, with displays and interactives that will inform, engage and entertain the widest possible audience
  • provide essential improvements to access, orientation and facilities for the 21st century visitor
  • create 500m² of gallery space on the new stunning top floor, designed by the internationally acclaimed Hoskins Architects, to attract the very best exhibitions from around the world, which visitors would otherwise have to travel considerable distances to see
  • establish two fit-for-purpose education spaces for learners of all ages
  • sensitively renovate the Cowdray Hall, preserving its unique acoustic and improving facilities for audiences and performers
  • create welcoming social spaces, including a new top-floor café bar and roof terrace offering unrivalled views over the city skyline.
