Historic Food and Cookery in Aberdeen

The Tolbooth Museum

20/07/2013 - 05/10/2013

This exhibition looks at the types of food eaten by Aberdonians over the last 600 years, how that food was prepared and what types of utensils were used to prepare it.

It highlights some typical recipes of each period and looks at how Scottish recipes were influenced by French and English traditions. Whilst the first Scottish cookery book dates back to the 18th century, many people had English cookery books from the 16th century. Interestingly the earliest recipe for haggis comes from an English cook book!
