Kaffe Fassett: 50 Years in Colour

12/07/2014 - 27/09/2014

This summer we are delighted to present the first major solo exhibition in Scotland celebrating the work of world-renowned knitwear and textile designer Kaffe Fassett. Specially selected for Aberdeen the exhibition showcases pieces from a remarkable career of 50 years.

Kaffe began his career as a painter in his native California, coming to Britain in the 60s. He discovered the joys of knitting on a trip to the woollen mills in Inverness with fashion designer Bill Gibb, going on to create ground breaking designs for Gibb’s early collections and fashion house Missoni. His passion for colour and pattern subsequently led him to design across a wide range of media including knitting, quilting needlework, rugmaking, mosaic as well as painting and textile design – all of which feature in the exhibition.

Kaffe continues to teach and lecture worldwide and he will join us in Aberdeen for a number of lectures and workshops. The exhibition has also inspired a lively summer programme of family workshops to take place in the Gallery.
