Frances Walker - Place Observed in Solitude

06/02/2010 - 10/04/2010

Aberdeen Art Gallery presents a major exhibition of work by one of Scotland's most highly regarded artists, Frances Walker, in celebration of her 80th birthday. This marks the first public showing of works from all periods of the artist's prodigious career and showcases her most recent work - a series of breathtaking panoramic landscapes of the Antarctic.

These, plus work from public and private collections, illustrate the theme of solitary landscape which runs through all of Walker's work, her celebration of Scotland's coastline and her continuing journey to wilder and more remote places, including the Arctic and Antarctic.

The exhibition is complemented by a new book about the artist and a documentary film made by Peacock Visual Arts. It is supported by the Scottish Arts Council and friends of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums.

Frances Walker's travel to Antarctica was assisted by the James McBey Travel Award administered by Aberdeen Art Gallery.

An exhibition of prints by Frances Walker will be shown at Peacock Visual Arts from 13 March - 24 April 2010.
