Crossing Cultures

Aberdeen Maritime Museum

11/07/2009 - 21/11/2009

Many objects in the City's Applied Art Collection have a strong relationship with other countries in the world. Given Aberdeen's importance as a port it is not surprising that many interesting pieces have found there way here.

This exhibition looks at ways these objects have become part of our culture, through trade, travel and collecting, as well as their influence on artists and makers working in the UK. Featured are European and oriental porcelain, costume worn by Aberdonians while working abroad, curiosities and contemporary craft, plus a silver coffee pot and cream jug recovered from the wreck of the City of Aberdeen, which sank in bad weather off the coast at Portlethen in 1871.
