Lunchtime Talk - The Waterloo Season

This year marks 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. A defining moment in modern European history and marking the end of the wars caused by the French Revolution, as well inspiring a pop song and a railway station, the battle is surrounded by myths and misperceptions.

This talk will help explain the background to the battle, what happened during it, the roles and motivations of the nations and how and why it still has a resonance in society today. In deference to the audience’s sensibilities, the speaker will not be singing but will explain why at Waterloo Napoleon did surrender.

Talk by Jason Finch, Curator, Maritime History
