LUNCHTIME TALK: TRANSPORTED BEYOND THE SEAS

The Tolbooth Museum

Talk

28/09/2016 - 28/09/2016
12.30-1pm

From 1788 to 1868 almost 164,000 UK citizens were transported to Australia, around 25,000 were women.

In April 1834 four women were sentenced transportation for their crimes at the High Court in Aberdeen. This talk will explore what we know about these women from the records, their crimes and their remarkable long sea journey to Van Diemen's Land, now Tasmania and what happened to them once they arrived.

Talk by Councillor Lesley Dunbar, Aberdeen City Council
