Mabel Nicholson was the sister of artist James Pryde and the wife of Sir William Nicholson. This painting was exhibited at the Goupil Gallery in 1912 as 'Kit in Red', confirming that the sitter is the artist's youngest child Christopher or 'Kit' Nicholson (1904 - 1948), who later became an architect.
Purchased in 1920.
