Lunchtime talk on Florence Nightingale

7 January

A free lunchtime talk on Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern professional nursing, will take place at 12.30pm on Wednesday 12 January at Aberdeen Maritime Museum, Shiprow.

The talk coincides with an exhibition that celebrates the history of local nursing currently on display at the museum.

The Caring Profession looks at the changing roles and responsibilities of nurses through important artefacts and the reminiscences of local nurses.

Exhibition curator Jenny Brown said: "This talk is an opportunity to take a look at where professional nursing all began, with Florence Nightingale, and to discuss whether her ideals for nursing are still relevant today."

The talk will last approximately 45 minutes.  Advance booking is essential so to reserve a place please telephone (01224) 337714.

The Caring Profession exhibition runs until Saturday 05 February 2011.
