Museum offers an alternative festive experience

20 November 2015

A little festive magic will be sprinkled over Aberdeen Maritime Museum this December to offer an alternative festive event for adults only.

After Hours: AlterNativity will see characters from one of Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums most popular painted masterpieces, John Phillip's Baptism in Scotland, come to life.

You are invited to this VIP event but only the painting's characters can help to ensure you make it to the party.

This intriguing event takes place on Friday 11 December, from 7pm until 9.30pm and will give adults over 18 years of age the chance to explore the maritime museum after hours.

For After Hours: AlterNativity visitors are invited to form a team and compete in a festive quest. The challenge will be to search the museum for the answers required to complete a nativity invitation, collecting points as you go.

Along the way mysterious characters will be eager to regale all manner of twisted tales, which visitors need to listen carefully for they hold the clues. But time is of the essence so participants should be careful and not get too distracted.

The AlterNativity quest is not the only excitement on offer. A host of festive fun activities have been planned making this event a quirky alternative to the usual Christmas party. Visitors can expect kitsch artist-led Christmas crafts, a pop-up gift market, mulled wine and party games.

Aberdeen City Council's Deputy Leader Councillor Marie Boulton said "Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums' After Hours event programme has proved to be very successful in the past. With so much on offer this festive-inspired alternative event is sure to be very popular so people should try to get their tickets early."

Tickets are on sale now at £5 each. For more ticket information please telephone 01224 523677 or visit After Hours: Alter Nativity for full event listing.
