Aberdeen Maritime Museum

18/02/2015 - 18/02/2015

Visitors to last summer’s major exhibition at the Tate Britain in London of British Folk Art will have been struck by the large number of items on display that were made by sailors.

A combination of the skills necessary for life at sea; sewing, rope-work, carpentry; combined with long periods of inactivity meant that sailors were ideally suited to creating some striking works of art. This talk will look at the collections of Aberdeen Maritime Museum’s folk art, and explore what is meant by the term.

Booking is essential please call 01224 337714.
