Along with the everyday fare of flatware, spoons and forks, William Jamieson also specialised in making small boxes and goblets. Boxes such as this were used to contain coiled wax covered wicks, similar to tapers, which were fed through the hole in the cover and lit.

Purchased in 1977 with assistance from the National Fund for Acquisitions.
